Playing with Geometry

This felt like I was back in freshman year and dealing with simple shapes to make a pattern, but the fun is that I was able to have fun with color while making bold patterns with easy shapes for the Abstract Minimalist challenge on Spoonflower. This is not usually my forte. I love busy patterns with lots of elements and textures, but it helped me to try something new (or at least something I haven’t tried in awhile).

Getting Into a Summer State of Mind

This week’s design challenge from Spoonflower had me thinking of what brings on those warm summer vibes—fruit, lush vegetation, and vibrant colors always put me in the mood for a warm summer day (sitting in the shade of course) and enjoy color fruit (or fruity beverage) and watching my kids play in the water. I illustrated some very basic pineapples, dragon fruit, kiwi, and orange, lemon and lime slices hidden among lots of bold tropical leaves.

New Ocean Inspired Patterns

Kansas is completely land locked and far from the ocean to get inspired for this week’s Spoonflower Design Challenge I had fun flipping through my natural history books and became inspired by the beauty of sea urchins. I created these designs as somewhat abstracted sea urchins and this would make a great pattern for curtains or pillow cases.

A Magical Combination

Dinosaurs and unicorns are a magical combination. Inspired by my daughter's first birthday. I couldn't decide between dinos or unicorns, so why not do both full of flowers and floral elements. This Frankenstein design is perfect for this week’s Spoonflower Design Challenge of Maximalism.

More Dinos to Love

We have added two more dinosaur patterns to my print on demand shops: Society6, Redubble, and casetify. We have been striving to create designs that appeal to both genders and I think this dino pattern really hits the mark featuring some of my favorite dinosaurs: tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurus, triceratops, and brontosaurus with volcanoes and Jurassic foliage.
