New Art Recap #5

It's been a little while since I have done the latest art recap. My recent work has a mix of watercolor, digital illustration, ink drawing, and hand drawn type. The lettering for Not My Circus Not My Monkeys took such a long time, but I love the finished piece with lots of texture and hand drawn quality that make this a stunning statement piece in an office or gallery wall. This was made with pen and ink and later colored in digitally, but all the type and elements are hand drawn and scanned into my computer.

The rainbow clouds was a fun piece to make. Initially I painted several sheets of paper one in shades of gray and the other two sheets in multiple colors. I then cut out the cloud and rain drop shapes and pasted them together. The piece was then scanned in and made into artwork.

Very different feel to the Scandinavian Fairy tale illustration with the flat vector work in traditional Scandinavian palette in green, yellow, and red. Just a prince and princess with their castle and unicorn. Inspired by traditional iconography of Scandinavian folk art and dala horse, but with a modern vector graphics . I also broke with tradition and created a soft blue and green design.

The watercolor rainbow mermaid scales was just fun to make. As with any type of painting this took type, but it was almost meditative in the way of adding layers of color in the scallop pattern. Looks painting looks really good on phone cases. The original hangs as artwork in my baby’s nursery.

Cut out print of rain clouds and raindrops in bright yellow, magenta, blue, purple, and green. Reminds me of my trips to Portland. Always rainy but so cheerful and joy.
